A bookkeeper or accountant: You Can't Have One Without The Other

It is wise to sit down with an accountant to help to properly set up your business financially as per your federal government tax agency requirements. After doing this, a good bookkeeper will work with your accountant to ensure the accounts are created as they should be, so that they can begin to enter transactions and to do a profit and loss report and balance sheet monthly or yearly. It is necessary to once again use your accountant at the end of a tax year to ensure everything is in order. Some bookkeepers are trained to do year end entries but make sure they are certified and properly trained.

The reason it is good to have both an accountant and a bookkeeper is because it is less expensive for your business. Accountants may charge $75.00 hr while a bookkeeper may be $25.00 hr. Many times accountants will not deal with day to day transactions. Yes, you can get an all-in-one package from accountants but I would recommend to shop separately as you might get a better price.
